You advance through novice courses into expert courses and on to one on one challenges with rival drivers/cars. The challenge of the game progresses as you get to be a better player. After completing ALL of the basic and expert races you are rewarded with "The End Credits." Woohoo. I have never played any other incarnations of this game so this PSP version was fresh for me. I've enjoyed this game and would encourage others to give it a shot. That's what keeps players like myself coming back to the game.
The other awards are just as lame with design drawings and earlier generation game credits as awards.I've started the whole game over several times and always get a kick out of advancing in the courses. A friend of mine had this game on PSP and it is what got me to buy the system in the first place. The graphics are great and very detailed. There may only be 24 tracks to race but the mix of the six different classes of cars gives you the chance to try new things on each of the courses. The only drawback I have noticed on this game is that the reward system is cheesy and not very well designed.
A lot of fun and a lot of tracks. One of the best racers to date for the PSP. Use 1st person view, it's much better.
When ever I am drifting around corners in this game while listening to the music, I feel like I am dancing with a car moving at 200 mph. It definitely shows the world that the PSP is going to challenge the Nintendo DS for the #1 spot.I personally believe it will dominate. This is poetry and love stories in motion. If you are looking for a reason to own a PSP, Ridge Racer is enough reason.
I guess I was put off by most people saying that it is not very accurate driving.Well, I tried this title now that is price is low and found it a hoot. Oh yeah, you wont see any brand name of cars that you would recognize, no mazdas, nissans, etc. This breaks the realism until you accept, again, that this is not a racing sim but an arcade racing game. The graphics are very good looking for a first generation psp game. But they are not distracting since you are moving very fast. it is very easy to get started, but it does get harder as you go.It is not a racing sim, even though, you are driving a car, the physics is very loose. Instead you will get some made up over top brand names.
You will see some jaggies, which I've read is the usual problems of RR series games. But in this case, you win races to unlock cars that are faster than the one you got right now. I dont know why I have not tried any Ridge Racer title before. I guess the mechanics is there for you to hone in you timing and control manuevers to achieve maximum speed.
and yet, the cars are good looking. At the bargain price this game is, it is sure recommendation. So you car will resemble some mutation of a ferrari, viper, etc. One minor flaw of this is that when you dont pull the drift right, you car never flips around 180 degrees. That doesn't stop me from trying many racing games from the hard core Grand Turismo titles, to more accessible Need for Speed.
I loved the sense of speed I get from the game. Another thing is that you can hit the wall and bounce off it with little penalty. The music is ok, not my cup of tea. Nothing you will recognize.
I start by saying that even though I love racing games, I pretty much s*ck at them. You will enter drift very easy. The only thing that could improve the game would be the ability to customize your ride like others games do.
have beat it and deleted my saved settings, and played to beat it again and again.
